The Princess Bride

In this Series:

Year of Release: 1987
Based on: The Princess Bride by William Goldman 1973
Director: Rob Reiner Studio: Fox

Ah, the incredible Rob Reiner, need I say more? This is one of those rare movies than you can watch again and again and…you get it! Like the Wizard of Oz, I believe this one will go down as a multi-generational holiday classic. After seeing it, it is hard to believe that the novel was, for a time, considered unfilmable. Now…well…I am sitting here drinking from a coffee cup that has “I am Igino Montoya, you drank my coffee, prepare to die.” written on the side.

I cannot remember another film that I have enjoyed as much as “The Princess Bride”. It has a little bit of everything, fairy tale ethic, romance, fantasy escapism, high adventure, action…just everything that is entertaining. The cast is so deep in talent that it is hard to designate just one performance as outstanding, but I find Mandy Patinkin’s extraordinary.
